Women’s Football Team
For this Month’s Blog Post, I would like to discuss a team that has entirely shifted the Women’s Sports Field in Egypt; Egypt’s Women’s Football Team. The Players worked very hard to live up to their potential; they’ve faced a lot of criticism throughout their journey, yet managed to succeed regardless. Over a course of different conversations & articles, the Team Members share the obstacles that they’ve overcome ever since they started playing Football – Some of which were only 5. They’ve all worked extremely hard to get to where they are now. However, the one – common aspect they’ve all shared to prosper and continue, is their love for Football. Laila Sherif, shares that her dream is to entirely change the way Women’s Football is perceived and instead, encourage other girls to join, or even to follow their own dream, regardless of what it may be. Further on, Tamara Aboul Gheit mentions ‘Girls in Egypt must be reminded that they can do whatever they put their minds to.’ Almost all Team Players growing up have played alongside Boys in School Breaks, or with their Male siblings at home – Due to the lack of Women’s Football Teams available during that time. That being said, this Team is more than just a Sport for them, it’s their found home. A home they worked really hard for, they’ve played on Male Teams, they’ve played with Older Male Siblings, some even travelled; to reach this Home. Each and every individual on the Women’s Football Team has shared a story of how she got to where she is now. This Team, in and of itself is a BIG achievement.
As an athlete, what I really want is for everyone to see this. And feel this. To understand how important this is. They felt it, I feel it, most Women Athletes feel this – and it is not okay.
They work extremely hard and we are very proud of them. We must focus on their achievements and keep encouraging them. Let’s put an end to any discourage & change the course for all upcoming Women Athletes. I would like to personally, take the time to applaud this Team. A team that is truly unstoppable. You make every Female Egyptian proud. I am very proud of you all for making history in Egypt. Thank you Mido for brining this to light. We need more people like you – Nonetheless, we must support & stand by one another. I support you. Always and Forever.
